Improve Student Engagement

High school graduation is a jumping off point rather than a culmination. Schools exist to educate students in core curricula such as math, science, reading and civics so they can be prepared to enter the workforce or attend college or technical school. Our community only benefits from well-prepared graduates.

Test scores in Kennewick schools show that student engagement is down. Even prior to COVID, students in our district were struggling to meet state standards. It is apparent that students learn differently these days! We need to engage our students in learning differently than we did when you and I were growing up. We need classrooms with distinguished teachers who value student voice and who encourage students to lead out in their own learning. Engaged learning is high achieving!

I am anxious to work with KSD teachers and administrators to more fully engage students in the classroom, understanding that this deeper learning will translate to improved test scores.

Protect Parental Rights

As a candidate, I am most concerned with trends I see in our nation, as well as in our state, that diminish parental rights. I am running for school board primarily because I want to be certain we have someone on the board that will protect those rights. Parents should be fully informed of how teachers and administrators interact with their children while they are away at school. If the district recommends or refers students to a third party social or healthcare service provider, the parents have a right to know about it. I will work tirelessly to ensure that this is the case in Kennewick School District.
